SmartAPI Module

Comprehensive guide for testing APIs with assertions, organizing requests into collections, and managing environments.

What is SmartAPI?

SmartAPI is RabbitQA's intelligent API testing module that enables teams to build, organize, and execute API tests with AI-powered test generation and powerful assertion capabilities. Group requests into collections, define assertions to validate responses, and manage environment variables -- providing a complete solution for API quality assurance.

SmartAPI transforms API testing by combining:

  • AI-Powered Test Generation -- Automatically generate test cases from API specifications
  • Visual Request Builder -- No-code interface for building and executing API requests
  • Smart Assertions -- AI-suggested validations based on response patterns
  • Contract Testing -- Ensure API contracts are maintained across versions
Coming Soon

SmartAPI is currently in active development. Some features described in this documentation may be partially available or subject to change.

Key Capabilities

Intelligent Test Generation

FeatureDescription
OpenAPI ImportAuto-generate tests from Swagger/OpenAPI specs
Postman ImportImport existing Postman collections
AI SuggestionsSmart test case recommendations
Edge Case DetectionAutomatic boundary testing

Request Collections

Organize API requests into logical groups for structured testing. Build requests visually with full support for HTTP methods, headers, authentication, and request bodies. See Collections for the complete guide.

Response Validation

Validate response status codes, JSON schemas, field values, response times, and headers with flexible assertion rules. SmartAPI's AI engine suggests assertions based on response patterns. See Assertions for all validation options.

Environment Management

Define variables per environment for seamless switching between development, staging, and production. See Environments for setup instructions.

Getting Started

When SmartAPI launches, you'll be able to:

  1. Import your API specification (OpenAPI/Swagger)
  2. Let AI generate initial test cases
  3. Customize and enhance tests
  4. Run tests manually or in pipelines
  5. Monitor results in Reporter
ipucu

Start by importing your existing API endpoints into a collection. Add basic status code assertions first, then expand to body and header validations as you build coverage.

Planned Features

Phase 1 -- Foundation

  • Request builder
  • Collection management
  • Environment variables
  • Basic assertions

Phase 2 -- AI Features

  • OpenAPI import with AI test generation
  • Smart assertions
  • Edge case detection
  • Response pattern learning

Phase 3 -- Advanced
